Continuing in my series of photos of the temperature inversion in Vancouver, I was fortunate enough to be able to capture the downtown buildings and the Lions Gate Bridge both partially covered by fog, and partially lit by the setting sun.

This is quite an unusual shot, as the fog frequently only sinks after sunset, so I was very pleased to be able to get this photo, capturing the last rays of the sun as they light up the buildings and the suspension bridge.

In this shot, you can see that the fog is higher in the west (on the right of the photo), and is actually blocking the sunlight from hitting the lower reaches of the buildings, particularly on the east side. The shallow angle of the light also highlights the peaks and troughs in the clouds.

This is a six photo panorama taken at 300mm just a couple of minutes before the sun set, and has incredible detail in the buildings and the bridge. This can be printed extremely large without any loss of quality.

Born in the UK, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2011. My career in photography has grown from a long-held passion for capturing the beauty of the world, aided on the technical side by my background as a software developer. I specialise in fine art photography of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in and around the Pacific Northwest, with work exhibited internationally. Many of my photographs feature the beautiful city of Vancouver, but as well as capturing its iconic cityscapes, I can often be found exploring the BC and Washington coastline for new photographic opportunities, as well as developing my portfolio of night sky photographs featuring the Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis.
